Visual Legacies & Posters

Our Intercultural Strategies flagship program, Belonging Matters Conversations (previously Finding Home Dialogues), often begins with participants sharing stories about why home matters and connecting with each other. Participants identify their priority issues then further conversations are customized to address those priorities. After each conversation session, the discussion highlights are typically synthesized into visual legacies.

What Are Visual Legacies?

Visual legacies are images / media / publications (e.g. posters, videos, social media memes, etc.) that are collaboratively created between Belonging Matters Conversations participants (people with lived experience) and the hosting facilitation team to synthesize key insights and commitments for ongoing reflection, awareness and learning. The content of the visual legacies typically represents the participants’ journey—the values and insights that support their voice, dignity and leadership.

The benefits of visual legacies are many. Visual legacies are a great way for participants to showcase and be valued for their expertise. They also provide an opportunity to build collaboration on a concrete outcome that often leads to increased awareness and action in the community and in the systems the participants interface with.

Below are some of the public visual legacies and posters generated by the Belonging Matters Conversations processes among various groups.

You are welcome to download the visual legacies and posters. Click on individual meme/poster images to open files and then save a copy to your device (or right-click and "save as" for images). Please let us know how you are using these visual legacies. You can leave a comment on the page or contact us.

As a society, we need to shift from a reactive mode to a prevention mode like what Belonging Matters provides.

As a society, we need to shift from a reactive mode to a prevention mode like what Belonging Matters Conversations provides. The more that we hear the voices of people impacted the most, the more respectful the process and the better the outcomes.

We need to support grassroots and community empowerment processes to achieve prevention and real change.

Belonging Matters Conversations gave me more confidence in myself and my strengths.

The Belonging Matters Conversations gave me more confidence in myself and my strengths. As well, the dialogue process helped me to accept my cerebral palsy and made me feel more comfortable talking about my disability. Importantly, the experience made me aware of what’s possible on both personal and community levels.

I am so grateful for Jessie's guidance in helping to address a long-overdue need for more connection, resources, and awareness in the community. I also appreciate the connections that I have made through these conversations and I look forward to continuing with this group.
