Sheltering in place with my 8-year-old daughter has, at times, been bumpy, at times blissful and mostly everything in between. I want to share two blissful moments that have changed the way I do my work around leadership, and I hope these experiences will help you with your leadership efforts as well.

My daughter recently asked to help me with my Belonging Matters work, so we now have work meetings where she helps me simplify my key messages. Here are two she came up with:

1. Leadership is love with wings

My daughter asked me questions about a training on how to engage diversity that I was preparing to deliver virtually. After we talked, she summarized everything I had to say by saying, “I see, so leadership is love with wings and that’s how you engage diversity.”

BOOM!

2. Reframe “pandemic” to “payback time"

In one of our conversations, I referred to our current global pandemic.

My daughter shouted, "Don’t ever use that word. We are not in a pandemic... we are experiencing Payback Time. The Earth does not like how we have treated it, and this is payback. Nothing will change until each individual has a realization.”

We then discussed what our realization needs to be so that we can live in alignment within the capacity and means of nature.

Reframing and free resources for you...

As a result of these conversations, I reframed a webinar I was giving to changemakers around the world about Building Trust In Times of Crisis. Listen below for the worldview work and call to action.
Leadership as “love with wings” was embedded in the approach discussed in the second webinar for leaders on Building Unity: Addressing Xenophobic Attitudes and Behaviours.

Listen below to get practical tips and strategies for building a culture of belonging and unity in the face of xenophobic and racist attitudes and behaviours.

I’d love to hear about how your leadership is like love with wings!
